Ernst Kahn was born on July 31, 1920 in Bad Hamburg v.d.h. (near Frankfurt) Germany. At age 16 1/2 he came to the United States with his parents, where he received a special work permit and began working at US Shoe Corporation, where he continued work for 54 years until he retired. In 1947, Ernst met Ruth at a Purim party and they were married in 1948. Jeff and Emmy were born in 1951 and 1954. Ernst was active in New Hope Congregation (Cincinnati, Ohio) from 1939 until it closed its doors in 1999. He held many positions on the Board including president and chairman of the board.
