In honor of Jewish/Israeli Banks & Financial Institutions
Description
Banco Israelita del Rio de la Plata was the major Jewish bank of Argentina. In the same manner as other large Jewish banks in Argentina, they began as charitable aid institutions, maintained involvement in construction projects, and paid continual attention to the needs of the Jewish community. In 1949, they sent delegations to Europe and Israel to establish financial relationships with banking institutions across the globe.
It closed in 1968, after a scandal in 1963 involving car assembly using imported replacement parts and thus avoiding the high tax on imported cars.
