Letter Written in 1954 by Rabbi Eliezer Silver to a Friend of his Son in Law, R. M. Yudekowsy Regarding R. Shlomo Rottenberg

The English translation of the Yiddish is as follows:
With the help of G-d, Tuesday of the Torah portion of “righteous justice” (i.e. Shoftim) 5714 (1954)
To the very honorable rabbi – friend of my son-in-law, the world renowned genius, may he live and be well – Rabbi M. Yudekowsky, may he live and be well. Peace and blessing.
         I hurry to reply to your query regarding the young man of excellent qualities and a desire (?) to grow in Torah who has studied here and in Detroit, and with whom I have been acquainted – as well as with his family – from his youth, Rabbi Shlomo Rottenberg, may his light shine. It is true that he a possesses superb intellectual capabilities as well as an upright character. He is wise in his manner and exceedingly honest in his conduct. I have examined him and he is capable of debating Torah matters, the scope of his knowledge is quite broad and encompasses a large portion of Talmud and Jewish law, with commentaries. He is in possession of a letter wherein I praise him in all matters, for he contains blessing. In addition, he is of illustrious pedigree…

להרב הנכבד מאד חבר לחתני הגאון העלמי שליט"א ר"מ יודקאווסקי שליט"א שלו' וברכה.
            אמהר להשיב על דבריו בדבר בחור המצוין בכשרונות ורצון (?) לגדול בתורה שלמד פה ובדיטראיט ואשר אני מכיר אותו ואת כל משפחתו מנעוריו הרב שלמה ראטענברג נ"י. אמת הדבר שבעל כשרונות נעלות הנהו גם בעל מדות ישרות חכם בדרכו, ובהנהגתו ישר מאד. בחנתיו ויודע לפלפל בתורה ומלא וגדוש בידיעותיו בחלק גדול בש"ס ופוסקים עם מפרשים ויש בידו מכתבי אשר הללתיו בכל דבר כי ברכה בו. גם בן גדולים הנהו
