Description
This coin was issued by Egypt.  It is a 10 piastres coin from 1980 depicting President Anwar Sadat of Egypt.  It commemorates the first anniversary of the signing of the Egyptian-Israeli peace accord on March 26, 1979.  To the best of our knowledge, this is the only coin or medal that was struck by or in Egypt commemorating the peace treaty with Israel.  It is interesting to note the wide varieties of countries that struck medals or coins to commemorate the signing of the Treaty, while Egypt has been reluctant to do so.  Sadly, this appears to be reflective of Egypt’s overall attitude toward peace with Israel.  When Israel held a ceremony to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty, despite invitations to many Egyptian public officials, no Egyptian public official was willing to attend the Israeli ceremony.
