The front / obverse has a recused Red Cross symbol in the center.  On the horizontal arm of the cross is the inscription “PCK” for Polish Red Cross.  Below are the years “1945 – 1985.”  Around the rim is inscribed in Polish “40th Anniversary of Polish Red Cross Hospital in Liberated Concentration Camp in Auschwitz-Birkenau by Soviet Union Army.”

This extremely rare medal was issued by the Central Office of the Polish Red Cross in Warsaw Poland.  Only 60 of these medals were struck by the Chemical Factory, in Auschwitz, Poland.
