Congressmen, Writers Ask Clemency for Moyne Assassins
NEW YORK—A petition to King Farouk of Egypt asking him to com-mute to life imprisonment, the death sentences passed on Eliahu Hakim and Ephraim Ben Zuri, confessed slayers of Lord Moyne, was cabled by Congressman John W. MacCormack, House Majority Leader; Senator William S. Langer, Representative Andrew L. Somers, Arturo Toscanini, Rabbi Eliezer Silver, co-president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis and president of Agudath Israel; Sigred Undset, Nobel Prize novelist; Louis Bromfield and Judge William S. Bennet, co-chairman of the Emergency Committee to Save the Jewish People of Europe.
Adraham Yahuda, professor of Moslem culture and science at the New School of Social Research here, cabled an appeal to the Grand Sheikh Almaraghi, rector of Alazhar, to intervene in behalf of the defendants.
