Jewish life." Within four blocks of the street that he lived on, there were some thirty odd synagogues.
Zelig started school in 1933, attending a Jewish Ortho-dox school by the name of Rabbi Jacob Joseph for his elementary school years. He continued his education in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he completed his first year of high school in another Jewish Orthodox school called Yeshiva Torah V'Daas.
At the age of 12, Zelig was fortunate enough to greet the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe upon his arrival in New York. Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneerson traveled by ship from Riga, Latvia and arrived in the USA on the 19th of March, 1940. Zelig and his brother, Mottel had permis-sion to take off school and join his parents at the dock where the ship was to arrive. However, among since Ze-lig was one amongst the throngs of thousands of people, he could barely see the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe from where he stood.
In order to make up for this loss, Zelig made sure to be present and have the privilege of meeting the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe at the Chanukas Habayis, when he moved to 770 Eastern Parkway, the location where he lived for the remainder of his years.
