Zelig was when he, together with the students of the Ye-shiva, were playing ball games downstairs in the yard of 770. A Rabbi disapproved of this action and said it was not the right thing to do in 770 as the noise might disturb the Rebbe, so the students ceased playing their ball game.
The Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe's wife, Rebbetzin Ne-chama Dina, would watch the students play ball from the balcony. When she saw what had transpired she threw down a box of balls for them to play with, which gave the students the approval to continue playing their games.
Another story that Rabbi Sharfstein often recalled was the time it had come to the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe's attention that children were playing games and running in the streets with their Tzitizis flying in an untidy man-ner. Consequently, he sent down a message to the boys, one of which was Zelig, which stated that it says, "You shall see the Tzitzis," not that you should show them off. He sent this message to teach the young students that they should remain tidy even while playing games in the street.
Three months after Zelig moved to Tomchei Temimim, the historical moment in American history when the Japanese placed an attack on Pearl Harbour, took place. He recalled that everyone had to black out their lights and close all window shades so that the enemy was un-
