one of the first Shluchim, emissaries, to go on this branch of Shlichus. He traveled during the summer vacation and stopped over by farmers, hotels, bungalow colonies and camps to meet and talk to people about concepts of Juda-ism while selling them Seforim, Jewish books. He also gathered 50-60 children on Shabbos to bring them to the synagogue for Mesibos Shabbos, an afternoon gathering where Torah was learned along with snacks being pro-vided.
One of the highlights of the year was the festival of Suk-kos culminating in Simchas Torah. In 1949, being that the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe was not well, there were limits as to how many people could attend the weekly Farbrengen in 770. There was the fear that if the room became overheated from a huge crowd, it would be un-healthy for the Rebbe. It was understood by all that when it would come time for Hakofos on Simchas Torah, there would have to be strict regulations as to how many and who would be allowed to enter the hall where the Hako-fos would be held. Rabbi Sharfstein was fortunate enough to be one of the Chassidim chosen to be present at the Morning Prayer service, which would be followed by Hakofos. The crowd of people trying to push their way into the hall was so great that they would not open the door to let anyone else in, nor could anyone get out.
