and the principal. Each year, Rabbi Sharfstein would give out Chanuka gelt (dollars) to every student in the day school, a memory that remains with every child that has passed through the school.
Zelig conducted community classes and lectures on different areas of Jewish Law, and how they pertain to the lives of Jews today. He was daily contacted by Rabbis around the world, via telephone or fax, to ask his opinion and advice, as well as Halachic ruling on many varied issues of Jewish Law.
Rabbi Sharfstein's patience, warmth and expertise was evident in both his communal involvement and personal relationships. As a leader, his dedication to Yiddishkeit was steadfast and unwavering, setting a true example to all those who knew him. His humility often hid his im-measurable wisdom and scholarship. As a Rov, commu-nal leader, father, grand-father and great grand-father, Rabbi Sharfstein will sorely be missed.
