My father in law, hareini kaporas mishkovo, (may I atone for his passing), used to visit us often in Australia together with tibadel lchaim tovim my mother-in-law, may she live long and healthy years. Invariably it would be in the US summer which was our Australian winter. We would joke between ourselves, that they would come at the best time of the year – they would have the shortest shiva asser b’tammuz and tisha b’av possible missing the long Northern hemisphere fasts.
We would plan all our simchas for that time. Didn’t really matter when the birthdays were – we couldn’t really celebrate without Bobby and Zeidy – and Bobby and Zeidy would always accommodate. Even last year when Zeidy wasn’t well enough to travel – Bobby arrived as a surprise for Yossi’s bar mitzvah . . . and Zeidy came with a recorded video message.
