pupil is compared to his teacher. I would like to be so bold as to say, that these three descriptions that describe Rabbi Sharfstein’s spiritual father and teacher, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, describe our late father and teacher – Rabbi Sharfstein – himself.
 
Eliyahi HaNovi: Rabbi Sharfstein was a leader with vision. He was a Rabbi’s Rabbi. When not only lay people, but even Rabbis were unsure what to do or where to turn – he had the vision to see their future. He had a unique insight to know what would be best for a person or a community at any particular time. Not just for Cincinnati, but for numerous other towns and cities that he helped. He was there to give just the right advice at just the right time.
 
Eliahu HaTishbi: His torah knowledge was legendary. From his student days in Yeshiva on he was famous for his learning. When I became engaged to Esty, and Rabbi Groner of Melbourne heard, his first words of Mazel Tov to me were “Reb Zelig – er hot gekent lernen” Reb Zelig – he could learn. Questions in halacha came to him literally from all over the US and indeed the globe. Literally hundreds of mikavois bear his halchic seal of approval. Many shluchim have said they don’t know now who to ask? Who will have the same knowledge and wisdom as Reb Zelig.
