He showed them, with the gift of story telling, all the characters that lived with children on the lower east side of New York before the war. When the einiklach would sit with Zeidy, they would be transported to another world – a world of fun and laughter . . . a world of Yiddish songs – of shviggers and mechutenestes – a world of happiness and joy.
 
More than the community, more than his pupils, more than those who needed his sage advice and counsel – more than all of these – it is we his family who will miss him. His wife Rebbitzen Sharfstein who truly was his soul mate and life’s partner, and who stood by him in every way until the very end – she will sorely miss him. His sons and daughters, Zevi, Shiffy, Esty and Mendy will miss him; and his children-in-law, Yosef, myself, Hindra Leah and Sarah, we will all miss him. To him we were all equally his children. And all his einiklach – and ur-einiklach and ur-einiklach to come, they will all also miss him – his stories, his smile and his love.
 
At the time when my mother tragically passed away in an accident, the Lubavitcher Rebbe comforted our family at a Farbrengen. He said, as it says in Chazal, that if the children of the departed follow in the ways of their parent – the parent lives on through the children. There is no question that the descendants of Rabbi Sharfstein fol[low]
