"From Out of the Past" Reprinted from our Shul Bulletin November 1956 FOREST AVENUE SYNAGOG Ground Breaking Held
October 21, 1956 will go down as a historic day in the life of our Congregation, for on that day a crowd of two hundred people gathered to witness the ground-breaking of the new Synagogue Build-ing to be erected on Stover Ave. in Golf Manor. Mr. Al Waxman, Chairman of the Ground Breaking Committee, called the gathering to order for the presentation of colors and pledge to the flag, carried out by the J.W.V. Post #438. After a brief invocation by Rabbi Indich, the program featured such dignitaries as: Mayor Chas. P. Taft; Mayor Thos. Dunlap of Golf Manor; Councilman Walton Bachracn; Benj. S. Schwartz, Candidate for Judge; Mark Krug, Director of Beth-Am and Talmud Torah and others. Joseph Schwartz, noted attorney whose parents were among the original members of the Congre-gation, was Master of Ceremonies and was introduced by Mr. Wm. Hyman, General Chairman. Vocal selections were rendered by Cantor Emil Rosen of the Feinberg Synagogue. Following a short program, the "first earth" was turned with special gilded shovels. Those attend-ing were given miniature metal shovels, specially inscribed as mementoes of the significant occasion. With the aid of G-d and the assistance of our members, there is hope of completing the new building so that it can be occupied for Passover.
