Picture of Senator Robert Taft

caption:
Over a quarter century later, President Taft’s son, Senator Robert A. Taft, introduced a resolution in the U.S. Senate. The date was February, 1944. The measure emphasized the need for a Jewish homeland as a haven for the large number of Jews who had become homeless as a result of persecution. The Senator continued to advocate the creation of a free Jewish homeland and was instrumental in the creation of the State of Israel. The last speech which he wrote, due to his filing health, was delivered by his son, Robert Taft, Jr. and it reaffirmed his strong belief in a free Israel.
