Cincinnati Hebrew Day School 32nd Anniversary Celebration Tribute Book

From the time the original land for the Cincinnati Hebrew Day school wasa purchased, to acquiring its present property on Dawn Road, Mr. Albert Harris has truly been one of the "Founding Fathers" of the school. For many years a community leader and benefactor of the Jewish education, he has been a strong supporter and board member since the inception of the school.

Mr. Harris was born in 1897, and served in the Navy in World War I and in World War II. He was treasurer for nine years and president for thirty-five years of Kneseth Israel Congregation, and is Chairman of the Board of Beth Tefylo Congregation, Vice President of North Avondale Synagogue, and a member of the Bureau of Jewish Education, B'nai B'rith, Jewish War Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and on the board of the Jewish Federation.

Mr. Harris is a member of the National Real Estate Boards and Cincinnati Real Estate Board, National and International Hotel Association, Society of National Appraisers, National Real Estate Brokers, and other institutions.

Many years ago, Mr. Harris served on the board of the Talmud Torah and was present at the meeting held in 1946 at the home of Meyer Goldberg with Rabbi Eliezer Silver, where it was decided to purchase the South Crescent and Reading property for the Chofetz Chaim (Hebrew Day School). When this building was sold, Mr.Harris purchases the land on Dawn Road a built our present unique and beautiful building.

Mr. Harris also constructed the Talmud Torah building on Summit Road, the Kneseth Israel Synagogue, and was responsible for acquiring the land for the Orthodox Jewish Home, wher ehe is no a member of their board. Mr. Harris worked closely with the late Rabbi Silver, who praised him for his extended efforts on behalf of the Jewish Community.

Albert and Sadye (Linowitz) Harris are the parents of Irving Harris, Attorney, and Mrs. Bernice Friedman, wife of Attorney Arthur Friedman, Mayor of Amberley Village.
