This medal was this was struck on his death in 1877 and was designed by the artist Anton Scharff.
SALOMON HERMANN VON MOSENTHAL was a Hesse-Cassel born German- Austrian Jewish dramatist, poet and librettist (1821-1877), author of The Merry Wives of Windsor, Leah the Forsaken.  He received most of his acclaim in Vienna.
