1941 Letter to Albert Harris from the Bureau of Jewish Education regarding the Establishment of a Zmiros Shabbos Committee (for the reading of the weekly Haftorah portion on Friday evening)

Dear Mr. Harris:
We are to open our Zmiros Shabbos season very shortly and wish to solicit your cooperation in this undertaking.
 
Every Friday evening at 8:30 P. M., men and women will gather at the Bureau to listen to the reading of the Haftorah of the week, the presentation of a short inspirational talk by one of our community leaders, and participate in group singing. These gatherings proved very successful last year and we hope for even better results this year.
 
Since most of the attending public is drawn from the membership of the various Orthodox congregations, we deem it but just that these congregations should actively participate in this institution.
 
We are, therefore, forming a special Zmiros Shabbos Committee, which should take charge of these Friday evening gatherings. We therefore ask you, as president of your congregation, to designate one of your members to serve on this committee. Will you please let us know the name of this person very soon so that we may communicate with him in due time.
