Degree of Doctor of Philosophy was conferred upon him by the University of Dorpat, at which he was a lecturer.
He later accepted the position of Rabbi of Libau, which position he honorably held until he was called to the United States.
At the age of sixteen he had already written and published a book known as “Education for Children”. A few years later he published his second book, in four volumes, known as “Tsuvas Shlomo”. His next publication was “The Medrash Hachaim”, a commentary on the Bible. He was one of the chief contributors to the Talmudical Magazine, “Yagdil Torah”, published in Slutzk and another magazine know as “Ha’Maisef and Ha’Pisgah”. He has several manuscripts ready not for publication; namely, “Mishna Shlomo”, which is a commentary on the Rambam, and also another book assigning reasons for all the Jewish Holidays and traditions.
In 1895 he married Miss Ethel Neuwidel, the daughter of the Rabbi of Tauragen, Borach Nasonial Neuwidel, a descendant of many famous rabbis, both on her mother’s and father’s sides. Her mother, Mrs. Dinah Neuwidel, was the daughter of the well known Rabbi Abraham Charif, chief Rabbi of Tikaly.
