History of Congregation Adath Israel, Cincinnati Ohio
caption:
Louis Weiland, Secretary of the Congregation, and his brother, Fred Weiland, devoted many months to the legal matters in connection with the erection of the structure.
The dedicatory ceremonies were held on Sept. 11th,1927 - the fourteenth day of Elul, 5687. The program was an impressive one, in which all sections of the Cincinnati Jewish community participated. Samuel A. Rosenberg, President, resided at the opening of the doors, through which entered the procession of the elders of the congregation, carrying the scrolls of the Law. The opening prayer was given by Dr. David Philipson, Rabbi of Bene Israel Congregation. Mr. Glass, as Chairman of the Building Committee, then formally presented the edifice to the congregation, and Mr.Rosenberg accepted it for the congregation. Louis Weiland, Secretary, read a historical review. Rabbi Feinberg delivered a prayer for light. The ceremony of lighting of the Perpetual Lamp was conducted by Louis Levenson. May Seasongood extended greetings on behalf of the community. The dedication prayer was delivered by Rabbi Bezalel Epstein, and the dedication address by Dr. A.A. Neuman. There was an address by Rabbi Feinberg, and the concluding prayer was given by Rabbi James G. Heller, of the Isaac M. Wise Temple.
Throughout the services, the Cantor and the choir played important roles, and their inspiring rendition of traditional Hebrew chants and melodies formed an impressive setting for the ceremonies.
