It is noteworthy, in passing, that this year, which marks the centennial of the congregation, also marks the silver anniversary of the laying of the corner stone of the present Synagogue; and that next year will mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the completion and dedication of the structure.

The new home of Adath Israel quickly proved to be an inspiration to the congregation and stimulated the enrollment of new members. A steady growth followed, although there was a temporary setback during the depression years that started in the fall of 1929.

One of the most valuable contributions which the congregation has made to the cultural life of the Jewish community was the establishment of the Leshner Library. Nathan Leshner, a member of many years standing, had for a long time contemplated the establishment of a children's library. With Rabbi Feinberg's assistance, a plan was developed for a library and reading room which would cater not only to children but also to adults, particularly to the Yiddish and Hebrew-reading public, whose wants might not be fulfilled in the Public Library.

 In 1928, Mr. Leshner generously donated a sum for the purchase of the books which were the beginning of the present collection, and also provided a sum of money partially to cover the upkeep of the library. Since Mr. Leshner's death in 1935, his widow has remained a faithful friend of the library.

Leshner Library has about 4000 books on its shelves. It is open to the public every day from 6 to 9 P.M. and on Sunday mornings from 9 to 12 A.M. Books may be borrowed or consulted in the attractive reading room.
