Mathilda Mode, wife of Solomon L. Mode, was born April 22, 1847, and passed away May 14, 1927. She was widely known for philanthropic work and charitable deeds. She was the first president of The Ladies’ Hebrew Benevolent Society, the first Sisterhood of the Adath Israel Congregation, serviced for thirty-five years and later installed as Honorary President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Avondale Synagogue.
