United Charity Institutions of Jerusalem August 1941 Fundraising Appeal with Seals [stamps] Depicting Famous Rabbis and Philanthropists

August, 1941 "AND I WILL SHIELD THIS CITY (JERUSALEM) TO SAVE IT" (Isaiah xxxvii, 35) Dear Friend: —
This sacred prophecy uttered by the Prophet Isaiah when the Assyrians besieged Jerusalem, will surely be realized even in our own days. The Holy Land will be shielded against the sinister power which spreads death and destruction over a major part of the globe.

But we must not forget for a moment the HUNGER, WANT and SICKNESS which threaten the very lives of our sisters and brethren in Jerusalem. Never before has Jerusalem been faced with such a dangerous situation as it is now because of the cruelties of the present World Conflict.

The famous, century-old institutions: THE FREE SCHOOL SYSTEM "ETZ CHAIM," the COLLEGE "ETZ CHAIM," the BICUR CHOLIM HOSPITALS, the FREE DISPENSARIES, the only HOME FOR INCURABLE INVALIDS, the FREE KITCHEN for poor, undernourished children — all of these institutions are now seriously imperiled in their work. Words would be inadequate to describe the desperate plight of these institutions and their almost super-human efforts to keep up their historic work. Their obligations and responsibilities have been tremendously increased while their income has been greatly reduced because of the war which has cut off virtually all channels of revenue.

WE APPEAL TO YOU: Please help these institutions in their heroic battle to save human lives! YOUR HELP MUST COME SOON. Do not delay. Every moment counts. Please remember that all funds are forwarded to Jerusalem BY CABLE.

Please do your utmost to dispose of the enclosed "NEW YEAR STAMPS" and send us the proceeds together with your own contribution. But in any event, we feel confident that the heart-rending appeal of the sick and the helpless will receive your whole-hearted support.

May G-d bless you for it and grant you a very Happy, Blissful New Year. May He grant us all the privilege of beholding the speedy Salvation of Israel and the restoration of peace to all mankind, Amen.

Your well-wishing brethren,

Rabbi Rosenberg
President

Hirsch Manischewitz
Treasurer
