The Beth Israel Synagogue - Hamilton, Ohio - Chartered 1911

The Beth Israel Synagogue of Hamilton, Ohio was initially formed in 1901 by eight orthodox families looking for a different option to the already established reform Jewish congregation. They started meeting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Greenberg and in 1902 Rented a room above North 3rd Street and elected their first officers.

On October 10th 1911 the Beth Israel Congregation is officially chartered with the state of Ohio. The charter members were: Abraham Blumenthal, A. Berezin, D. Cohen, David Elias, Sol Horwitz, Max Jaffee, Sam Kessel, Louis Piker, Ben Seibler, and Abraham Weiner

In 1912 the Congregation built its first home on the corner of 5th and Charles Street and stayed there for seventeen years until 1929 when they sold their building and moved into a temporary location in order to build a more permenant home. In 1931 the current building was completed and the congregation moved in.

In 1956 Beth Israel joined the conservative movement
