Dear Friends,
We are glad that we can now answer your kind letter and thank you sincerely for your quick help in our hours of need. We cannot fully express how encouraged we are by your help and we are pleased to enclose our official receipt for $50. –
You can imagine that we did not have an easy time at the hospital. We were hit by shells in three places, but thank G-d nobody was hurt, although one shell was found unexploded in the vicinity of our mothers and newborn babies. We are now busy making repairs to the damaged section of our building.
435 wounded soldiers and civilians were brought to our hospital for hospitalization and treatment. We had made all preparations beforehand for just such an emergency, including an underground operations theatre… We can truly say that the Almighty was with His People and His Land and many miracles occurred. Let us hope that now a lasting peace can be achieved and Israel.
Your expression of solidarity came at a time when we could need it most, and all of those who worked around the clock, our staff together with many volunteers, were greatly encouraged by your practical help and moral support. Needless to say that we had many large expenses before and during the period of fighting, and we are happy that out friends rallied to our aid. As we are still in urgent need of funds we ask you kindly to tell your friends about our Hospital and its work in the hope that they may also wish to participate.
With repeated thanks and greetings from liberated Jerusalem.
Sincerely yours,
Elchanan E. Pels
Director of Public Relations.
