Aleph Zadik Aleph will hold tourney

Representatives of 9 districts in U.S.-Canada Coming.

Aleph Zadik Aleph, junior branch of the Independent Order of B'nai B'rith, will hold its sixth international tournament in oratory, debating and basketball in Detroit and Windsor, next Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

Representatives of nine districts in the United States and Canada, which include 120 chapters in every section of the two countries, will attend the tournament and district champions will compete for national honors. The Detroit-Windsor council is sponsoring the tournament with Jess R. Feiler as general chairman.

The program outlined will begin at 7 a.m. Friday, with registration. At 9 a.m. a debate will be held in Hotel Tuller. During the day a basketball game will be held every hour, with the exception of the luncheon period. 

Joseph Karesh, of Minneapolis, grand aleph godol of the order will officiate at Friday night services at Shaar Hashomayim synagogue in Windsor. Edward L. Kay is president of the Detroit-Windsor council.

Aleph Zadik Aleph is an international youth-led fraternity organization for Jewish teenagers founded in 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1925,  B’nai B’rith adopted Aleph Zadik Aleph as its primary youth program at their National Convention.

The Detroit-Windsor Council of AZA was formed July, 1929. Three chapters of AZA are represented on the council: Detroit No. 63, Adolph Freund No. 93, and Theodore Herzl No. 112.

The Detroit-Window Council put in a bid for the sixth international tournament, and the bid was accepted. The Tournament was held March 7-9, 1930.
