Obituary for Rabbi Bernard Kalchman

CINCINNATI — Rabbi Bernard Kalchman, 67, spiritual leader of North Avondale Synagogue, died recently after a brief illness.

A widely-known scholar, teacher and lecturer, he was the descendant of a long line of rabbis. His father was a Hassidic rabbi in Jerusalem until his death 15 years ago.

Rabbi Kalchman came to this country in 1924 and headed congregations in Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.
