ELIAS KAHN, organizer and father of the E. Kahn's Sons, opened a meat market in September, 1882 at Central Ave. and in 1885 began to slaughter cattle at Findlay and John Streets. After Elias died in November, 1899, his sons Louis, Nathan, Eugene and Albert reorganized the packing house and in 1907 it was incorporated as the E. Kahn's Sons Co. and grew up as one of the greatest private packinghouses in the United States. The new plant has a strictly kosher branch under the supervision of the president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis in U.S.A. The new plant at 3241 Spring Grove Avenue is of 5-acres — 500 feet on Spring Grove and 480 feet to the mainline of the B. & 0. Railroad, and is world-renowned as the best and the purest Kosher meat packing plant in the country.
