Rabbi
Avraham Yaakov Gershon Lissa
Alias Lesser
[formerly] of Chicago, and now
In Cincinnati.

In the name of G-d, “execute for me powers-of-attorney”
In the year five thousand, six hundred eighty one
Since the creation of the world, here, Cincinnati, Ohio, in North America

We Jews, men and women, signatories [of this document] “by name and clan”, including actual signatories , as well signatories “by name and clan” through “transfer of quill” (i.e. through others signing on their behalf), those received by letter, or through emissaries, or emissaries’ emissaries, each in his proper time – hereby appoint [the following] agents and emissaries for [all] matters pertaining to Chametz (leaven) of any of the five grains (i.e. wheat, barley, spelt, oats, rye)  [in the form of] food or drink that may be found anywhere [in our possession]: Our leading agent is the rabbi – our teacher, Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Gershon Lissa alias Lesser, may his light shine, and the two [individuals] he will choose to form a complete and just Beth-Din. Each one of us gives them permission to do with our Chametz as they wish, just as one is [allowed to do whatever he wishes] with one’s own possessions. And so as to be clear we shall specify and list the [following] clauses: (1) all types of bread of all kinds of grain, flours, cereals, that are of the five grains to which the prohibition of Chametz applies, [be they] baked, fried, or mixtures – such as all types of candy – and potions; any type of food that may be eaten, whether fit for human or for animal consumption or for medicinal purposes, or for other utilitarian purposes; (2) all types of drink that are suspected of coming under the prohibition of Chametz, whether actual [Chametz], or mixtures, or that have absorbed [Chametz], or [contain] stuck, or hardened, [Chametz]; (3) Chametz utensils of either food or drink even if all they contain are traces [lit. “the smell”] of Chametz; (4) animals that eat or drink things that are Chametz of the five grains, they (i.e. the animals themselves) and their food and drink; (5) businesses that deal with Chametz, i.e. bakeries, groceries, restaurants, candy shops, bars and their incomes(? accompanying motels?), pharmacies, rex-shops(?) that contain things that have hardened Chametz stuck to them, yeast-factories(?); (6) houses, rooms, attics, and cellars i.e. basements and the like, where any kind of Chametz or things that may contain traces of Chametz are stored. We appoint Rabbi YIGA”L ((Yaakov Gershon) (Avraham) Lissa) and the two [people] he will have chosen for a complete and just Beth-Din, as agents, emissaries, and attorneys over all of the above. They may do [with all of the above] whatever their hearts desire as any person may do with his own property. [They may] sell – even on credit – gift, abandon, even burn and destroy [all of the above]; (7) they have permission to replace and exchange the staff who are employed there with others daily, as they see fit; (8) we vest these aforementioned agents and any of their representatives with the power and right of trespassing our properties if required in order to get to the areas where all of the aforementioned [Chametz] is located; (9) their actions are as valid as our actions (lit. their hand is as our hand), and their directives (lit. speech) as our directives, and anything they do or write is as if we have so done and written,
