SCHMURA BAKING AT MANISCHEWITZ CO.
The Schmura Baking at the Jersey City plant of The B. Manischewitz Company is an annual event that is now marking its seventy-first year of observance. This inspiring and beautiful ceremony is one that is held in high regard by the officials of The B. Manischewitz Company, founded in the year 1888 by Rabbi Dov Behr Manischewitz, grandfather of today's executives of the company. This symbolic approach to Passover is one that the Rabbis enact in every Jewish community throughout the world. The Schmura matzo — the most guarded of all Passover matzos — is a pure wheat product, grown under strict Rabbinical supervision to assure its kashruth. From the fields of grain, to the flour mills, to the bakeries, the wheat is under constant supervision. Is years past, Schmura matzos were baked in the Rabbi's own home. It has since become a tradition at the Manischewitz bakery enjoyed by both the firm's officials and Rabbis alike. Rabbi Chaim Karlinsky is watching as Rabbi Ellezer Silver feeds the dough for the baking of Matzo Schmura through the machine. World-famous religious leaders have made the journey to the modern bakery for the sake of Schmura baking. The names of eminent Rabbis who gathered to attend the baking are listed below in alphabetical order.
