Sigmund Freud “Pathfinders in Psychiatry” Medal

The reverse at the rim reads SIGMUND FREUD 1856 - 1939 and PATHFINDERS IN PSYCHIATRY.  In the upper part of the center it shows the upper portion of a man, probably Freud with figures behind him.  Below that scene in small letters it reads WHO DIVINED THE FAMED RIDDLE AND A MAN MOST MIGHTY SOPHOCIES.  It then reads FOUNDER OF PSYCHOANALYSIS - EXPLORER OF THE UNCONSCIOUS - AND DYNAMIC FACTORS IN - HUMAN THOUGHT AND BEHAVIOR.  It then reads COMMISSIONED BY - ABBOTT LABORATORIES.

This medal was designed by the artists Hibbit (the reverse) and Stanton (the obverse) as the medalisst, and it was struck by the Medallic Art Company.
