“Together with your households, you shall feast there before the Lord your God, happy in all your undertakings in which God has blessed you.” (Deut. 12:7)

This might well be the biblical text explaining and justifying Temple Sholom’s Twentieth Anniversary celebration. If a sanctuary is established so that it and its congregation are somehow deserving of Divine benediction there must be many occasions for thanksgiving and gladsome banqueting. Those who pioneered and those who firm and depend the roots the pioneers sowed - alike respond to the call: “Rejoice!” It is an opportunity both to measure how far we have come and to estimate how far we have yet to go - in serving God’s deepest purposes.

In this troubled age for Israel and mankind we have sought to be creative. May every quinquennium of Sholom give us added cause for rejoicing.

Rabbi Emeritus,
Temple Sholom
