At an historic meeting that took place at our. synagogue building on Tuesday night, April 18th, formal approval was given for the con- . solidation of the Bnai Abraham Synagogue of Norwood and Congregation Beth El of Northern Hills. The new synagogue, which is to be known as Congregation Bnai Abraham - Northern Hills Synagogue, brings to-gether two relatively small congregations both located some distance from the.core of Jewish life in Cincinnati. The new institution will thus be able to utilize the experiences, the resources and facilities, and the enthusiastic workers of both groups to better serve the spiriitual and religious needs of all its members. I like to think of the joining of our two congregations as a "Shidduch", a term usually used for the union of two marriage partners. Indeed, as time goes on, we must grow together in our thinking so that we do in fact become one large happy family, united in objectives and goals. There are, it seems to me, a great many obvious benefits for all to be derived from this "Shidduch". Nevertheless, I feel sure that, in time, a great many additional advantages will appear that
cannot possibly be foreseen at present. It is written in Pirkei Avos, the Ethics of the Fathers, "Every undertaking for the sake of Heaven will ultimately succeed." Let us always remember the purpose of our union - the perpetuation of our faith, the dissemination and observance of Torah, and the religious education of-ourselves and our children. With these objectives constantly in mind, our consolidation will succeed far beyond our present expectations.
